Utilities

The City of Sheridan’s Utility office is located at City Hall and open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. We provide billing services for water, sewer, and storm water. Utility accounts may be listed in one name only and the person whose name appears on the account is responsible for the payment of bills, deposits, and other charges that may appear on the bill. (The City is not responsible for agreements made between landlords and renters or roommates).

Billing Cycle

Normally, water meters are read by the Public Works Department between the 7th and the 15th of the month.  Utility bills are usually generated and mailed the last week of the month.  Billing statements do not reflect payments made on the day bills are generated.

Water Consumption

Sheridan does not have a "flat rate" for water.  Water is billed by consumption.  If you notice a significant increase in your water consumption, you may have a leak.  Some things to check before calling City Hall are dripping faucets, leaking toilets, hot water heater problems, or leaking sprinkler systems. 

It is possible for you to check your meter too.  When your faucets and appliances are off, look at your meter, if the dial is turning, then that is a good indicator that you might have a leak.

Public Works is happy to assist in checking your meter for a possible leak and making sure the reading is correct; however they are unable to locate leaks on private property.

Meters

Meters are the property of the City of Sheridan and are not to be turned on or off except by authorized city employees. Unauthorized connection of a meter is illegal under state law. The city has the right of access to meters whenever necessary.

Application & Deposit Required

The City of Sheridan requires that the attached application be completed together with a $150.00 deposit plus $49.26 for the first month of sewer at the time services are requested. Please provide valid picture ID upon application. 

Deposits will be held by the city until the payee requests discontinuation of water service.  Deposit refunds will be in the form of a check sent to the applicant at the current or forwarding address provided. In the case of discontinuation of service, the deposit will be applied to the final bill and the applicant will be either refunded by check or billed for the difference.

Non-Pay Terminations

Services disconnected for non-payment will not be restored until all past due balances, along with a reconnect fee, have been paid.

Payments

Customers have (ten) 10 days from the date the bill is mailed to make full payment. Our office must receive payment by the due date to avoid an additional fee. Payments may be mailed or paid in person at City Hall located at 120 SW Mill Street. We accept checks, cash, or credit card (VISA OR MASTERCARD). After 5:00 pm on weekdays or on weekends, payments may be deposited in our night deposit located near the front door of City Hall (please use checks only in the night deposit box). Mailed payments must reach City Hall by 5:00 pm on the date due; we do not go by the postmark date. With all forms of payment, please include the payment portion of your bill to ensure that payments are applied to the correct account. Please include your account number on checks.

Refund Policy

The City of Sheridan does not refund any electronic payments.
