Position Objectives:
The City of Sheridan has an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual looking to use and grow their skills as part of a Public Works team that takes pride in every job, big and small. The Water Distribution Plant Operator is responsible for the construction, operation, maintenance, and replacement of the City’s water distribution system and infrastructure associated with the City’s Level III water treatment plant and related facilities. This position assists with ensuring compliance with regulatory agency requirements and water quality standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The City of Sheridan water facility is composed of a surface water treatment plant, an impoundment facility with eight miles of transmission line, and groundwater sources. The system includes four reservoirs with a total storage capacity of approximately 4 million gallons, 17 miles of distribution lines, 1,550 water meters, over 600 valves, 160 fire hydrants, and 50 end-of-line blow-offs.

Minimum Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications
• High School Diploma or GED.
• One year of general maintenance, repair, pipe laying, or construction experience in street right-of-way, street maintenance, public works facilities, or utility systems; or any satisfactory combination of experience and training demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the above duties.
• Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record required; must be maintained throughout employment.
Desirable Training and Experience:
Preferred Qualifications
· CDL with Class A and Tanker Endorsements preferred.
· Oregon Water Treatment Operator Level I Certification preferred; must be obtained and maintained within five years of hire.
· Oregon Water Distribution Level I Certification; must obtain and maintain Oregon Water Distribution Level II within five years of hire.
· Flagger Certificate preferred; must be obtained and maintained within one year of hire.
· Cross Connection Specialist Certificate preferred; must be obtained and maintained within one year of hire.
Benefits:
Salary & Benefits
The salary range for this position is $23.49 to $34.69 per hour, depending on experience. This is a full-time, FLSA non-exempt, Union-represented position (after a six-month probationary period). This position is not eligible for remote work.

Schedule
• This position typically works Monday through Friday, 8 hour days.
• This position is designated as “First Responder” / essential personnel. In the event City offices close due to inclement weather or other emergencies, you are required to report for your scheduled shift, as well as any required overtime.
• On-call may be required.
• Occasional attendance at community events, which may occur after hours or on non-regularly scheduled workdays.
• Overtime may be required.

Background Check
Selected candidates will be required to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening, driving record background check, and criminal history background check. The record must be clear of any criminal convictions for crimes that would preclude the individual from performing the essential duties and responsibilities of this position.
